Inonotus radiata - Alder Bracket

On an alder beside the road. Has mazy pores, but not so much as other mazegills or Daedalopsis confragata (Blushing Bracket). This one is surprisingly zonate, but has the expected hairy upper surface. While it resembles Trametes versicolor (Turkeytail) that species has round pores which termiate before the margin, and doesn't have the flamenco dress frilliness in the margin either.

New species ticking along

Another fungus added to the Cullaloe list keeps the Fungal (135) and Overall (1311) totals ticking over. This one is a nice pruinose ascomycete on Salix, but is a general pluriverous species of wood

Feautured in Ellis and Ellis as Propolomyces versicolor, in NBN/iRecord, as well as Mycobank, it is called Propolis farinosa. It's an attractive species, filling up holes where the bark is becoming decorticated and heavily farinose

Another day, another fungus

So three new fungi so far this year and a couple more candidates in a box. This Green Elfcup was found on Willow above the car park. In the race to a targetted 1500 species (total) this year this one takes the reserve to 1309. Only 191 new species left to go!

Old photographs

It's funny how looking at old photos with new eyes can reveal new detail. This photo, from the base of a Coprinus plicatlilis photo, reveals an unrecorded fungus Cymathoideum trifolii on Clover leaves. At the time of taking it I couldn't have named either species. Wonder what else I'll find trawling through the old unidentifieds.

New fungus - Exidia, thuretiana - White Brain

A nice new fungus at lunchtime today in the rain. This year I will be trying to resist keeping a year list, which should be easy since I haven't started one. I will list only additions along with the groups I have chosen to specifically zoom in on - fungi, flies, spiders and epiphytes. And ... no! no and! Well, let's see

Here it is - the white brain
