This species is noted as a common resident of beech woods. There are several similar species but this one lacked the fishy or curry smell of two of the others, the northen or southern distribution of another two and the latex persisted white upon drying rather than yellowing as in Birch Milkcap (also no birches in this area). Spore print white.
