A hard sell - Golden Booted Fly

One of my favourites of late at Cullaloe, this is the second time I have come across this fly. If I thought that I had trouble selling moths as beautiful then this is setting the bar higher! But look at its little golden shoulders, golden mask and even its golden feet! What's not to like?

I have, of course, no idea of its name or taxonomy, but I'm guessing Diptera (or is it a bee? Nah - only one pair of wings).

  1. I think that's Mesembrina meridiana. I believe it to be distinctive but I'm no expert on flies.
